History - Embassy Flavours Ltd.

History

Embassy was founded in 1979 when Giannangelo Brambilla created a family business called Embassy Food and Supply Ltd. Working with his sons Martino and Marco, Giannangelo distributed spaghetti sauce, flavours and other Italian imports to hotels and restaurants in the area of his small warehouse in downtown Toronto .

After two years of business however, the company was experiencing difficulties and found itself close to bankruptcy. With his business faltering, Giannangelo Brambilla decided to leave the business and 17 year-old Martino became the owner and president.

When Martino took over the company in 1981, he changed the name to Embassy Food Specialties Ltd., and moved the focus of the business to flavours. With only one employee and denied business loans from wary banks, Embassy operated on an extremely tight budget.

Still, business was good, and Embassy grew. Gaining an expertise in flavours, Embassy began to establish itself by selling low concentration flavours to bakeries. In 1992 the company began developing, manufacturing and selling bread and cake mixes as a way to increase its presence in the bakery industry.

It worked! In 1994 the company reached its first $1,000,000 annual sales figure and Embassy began expanding at a dizzying rate. It moved into a larger and more modern facility in the Etobicoke area of Toronto , and it began to employ more staff members.

As the bakery industry started to trend away from smaller operations towards larger wholesale bakeries, Embassy adapted to meet these new demands by selling more concentrated flavours. In 2003, it partnered with Nestlé to become the exclusive Canadian distributor of Nestlé instant tea and coffee. In the years after it reached its $1,000,000 mark in 1994, Embassy experienced unprecedented growth. In fact, it experienced so much growth that in 2003 Embassy was featured in Profit magazine’s “Profit 100” list of Canada’s fastest growing companies.

In 2004, after almost 2 years of designing and building, Embassy moved into a new manufacturing facility in Brampton just outside of Toronto . The new facility was built to accommodate the exceptional growth that Embassy had experienced, and to meet HACCP quality assurance standards. With the move, Embassy Food Specialties changed its name to Embassy Flavours Ltd. to more accurately reflect its core business of flavours. Along with the new facility and its name change, Embassy redesigned its logo to give the company a more modern corporate brand identity.

Today, Embassy Flavours is the primary manufacturer of flavours for bakery applications in Canada . With its growth it has expanded beyond the bakery industry, and provides flavours to market leaders of the beverage, confectionary, pharmaceutical, processed food and dairy industries. Now over a quarter of a century old, Embassy is still providing the top quality products and expert service that enabled its extraordinary success. Our vision for Embassy’s future is the same as it has always been: continuous, sustainable growth made possible by quality products, service and satisfied clientele.
